Spicy Strawberry Salsa is so delicious and perfect for the upcoming Dutch summer. Plus! strawberries are not only local but also in season at the moment. Winning on all accounts. Buying in season and local, where possible, is a great way to get the best flavours. Strawberry Salsa is a great addition to your summer BBQ or Apéro.
I originally got this recipe from my mum a couple of years ago and it has been a classic in my summer recipes. Maybe it will be for you as well?

Spicy Strawberry Salsa Recipe
400 gr fresh strawberries, destemmed and chopped
1/2 Granny Smith Apple, chopped (or any other tart apple)
1/2 small red onion, chopped
Small handful parsley, chopped
1 hot red chili pepper, remove seeds and chopped
1/2 lemon, juice
1 tsp honey
Salt and ground pepper to taste
Mix all the ingredients together and keep in the fridge in an airtight container for two hours before serving. Before serving drain the excess fluid (which you can add some vodka to and make a cheeky drink ) and serve with tortilla chips. Enjoy!
Serves four to six as an appetizer.
Notes
Make sure to use flavourful strawberries. When strawberries are lacking in flavour then your Spicy Strawberry Salsa will also (and nobody wants that). If you are unable to find strawberries then try in season, ripe peaches.
Not a fan of spicy peppers? You can always substitute half a yellow or orange bell pepper or just omit.
This is best made a couple hours before to let the flavours really blend.
