Cinnamon and pear are such a great combination hence this lovely Cinnamon Pear cake. This recipe is an updated version of a cake you would serve for Kaffee und Kuchen back home. I would pair (pardon the pun) this cake with tea especially if you have green or white teas or a variation on the two. Herbal infusions are also welcome to join the party.

How to make vegan condensed milk
Finding dairy free alternative to some dairy staples can sometimes be as easy as going to Carrefour and as difficult as attempting it yourself. This time it was the latter. At least I can now tell you how to make vegan condensed milk. It is quite simple but does take time if you are making a larger quantity of vegan condensed milk.

Vegan Banana Bread with Brown Sugar Topping
Banana bread is one of those desserts that are so easy to make and, if you have ripe bananas on hand, something that can easily be ready in an hour and a bit. I have previously shared a oil and butter free version of banana bread but this one is a bit more indulgent (read, naughty). Seeing as banana bread is really versatile this recipe is great to have on hand. Add in some roasted nuts or dark chocolate to give the banana bread a sweet surprise.

Chräbeli – Dairy Free Christmas Cookies
Chräbeli is one of those Christmas cookies that you either love or hate. And I love them because they are dairy free Christmas cookies plus the taste of the roasted Anis seed is amazing in here. Here is the recipe from the Swiss version of Betty Crocker, Betty Bossi. In the dairy free Christmas cookies series I will be sharing four of my favourites: Matrosenkäppli, Chräbeli, Mailänderli and Basler Brunsli. If you are not Swiss do not fret because I will write the recipes in English and link you to the original recipe if it can be found. All, except for the Mailänderli, are already dairy free Christmas cookies.

Apple Tart – Whole Wheat + Dairy Free
I know that apple pies, tarts and the like are a complete autumn cliché but you have to admit it is a delicious cliché. Add in the warm flavours of maple syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg and you have yourself a delightful autumn treat. You can eat a slice on its own or serve it warm from the oven with a scoop of vegan vanilla icecream or vanilla sauce. Pro tip: pies like this taste better the next day. It is a scientific fact.

Rustic Fig Tart – Gluten + Dairy Free
I came across the most amazing fresh figs at Union Coop this morning and knew exactly what to do with them; a rustic fig tart. I based this on what my mother use to make for us when we were children. A classic Wähe as we call it in Switzerland. More often than not my mother used apples, plums or the ever so lovely apricots and, when they could be picked from the garden, rhubarb. I love all Wähe variants equally but could not resist making something with figs. If you do not have figs available then any of the previously mentioned fruits can be used.

Marroni Swirl Cake
Pumpkin, squash and fresh picked apples all evoke the flavours of my favourite season, autumn. In addition to that list I would also like to add roasted chestnuts. Did you know that chestnuts, unlike other nuts, are primarily composed of carbohydrates. Other tree nuts and seeds are higher in calories, protein and fat. If you want to know more about the health profile of chestnuts click here.

Say it with flowers – Edible Flowers
Before the time of instagram, facebook, snapchat and twitter (hello, twitter you old dragon) people used edible flowers in their meals. Edible flowers are such a treat! Obviously social media has upped the popularity on these edible beauties but they have always been there. Edible flowers can bring a surprising taste sensation as well as aesthetic to many everyday and fancy dishes. Grow them at home, purchase from a grocery store or forage but do be careful.

Matcha + Lime Popsicles
Popsicles in September? Welcome to Dubai! When I was in Switzerland a couple weeks ago I was intrigued by a Matcha-Popsicles recipe by FOOBY that I saw in coop. I took the recipe with me and this past weekend I finally made them. To check out the original recipe here is the online version. Their online version actually has some really great recipes and amoungst them there are over 150 vegan recipes. Ohlala. The website it only in German, French and Italian so if a picture tickles your taste buds you will need to use a translator app.
