I have been making my own granola for a while now and decided to add some new elements like ground flax seeds and chia seeds which is how this Vegan Flax Chia Granola came to life. It is really easy to make a granola vegan so don’t think there is extra work involved in making it vegan. Unless you use honey most granolas should be vegan. That being said if you are following a vegan diet you should check. Now onward to this lovely vegan flax chia granola!
Granola is such a great breakfast or snack staple to have on hand and when you make your own you know what goes into it and you can make it suit you and your lifestyle. I like to make a large batch for the coming weeks (just keep it in the fridge or freezer!). Use this recipe as a base and add different nuts or seeds to it. Shop your fridge and pantry to get the most out of your groceries.
Vegan Flax Chia Granola Recipe
2.5 cups rolled oats, do not use instant
1/2 cup milled flax seeds
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1/3 cup agave syrup
1/4 cup chia seeds
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Add all the ingredients to a large bowl and mix well to combine. Thinly spread out the mixture on a parchment covered baking sheet. If you have a smaller oven you may need to use two baking sheets.
Bake at 150c for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Make sure to stir up the mixture half way through so that the granola can bake evenly.
Once done set the granola to cool still on the baking sheet. Once fully cooled transfer to an airtight container and keep in a cool dry place for up to 10 days. I keep mine in a sealed container in the fridge.
Vegan Flax Chia Granola Recipe Modifications
- instead of agave syrup use maple syrup for a warm flavour
- replace the slivered almonds with thin coconut chips and two tablespoons of cocoa nibs for a healthy treat
Let me know how you like your granola? What do you eat it with? Have a great day and enjoy!
Ps. want to check out some other lovely, and delicious, granola mixes I have made? Yes? Then check out Maple + Pecan Granola and Chocolate + Coconut Granola.
This sounds yummy! Never would have thought to put nutmeg in granola, but it sounds interesting – perfect for a cold day like we’re having today. Snowing in April, ugh.
I am going to try a batch of this and see what my five year old thinks. Thank you!
Have fun! Maybe you can even get the little to help make it 🙂
I always love having a big batch of granola on hand for those mornings you just don’t feel like cooking breakfast. This sounds like a delicious recipe. 🙂
Thanks and you are so right. Great to have something like this on hand for when you want something quick and easy

This sounds absolutely delicious! I prefer using raw honey than agave, but I’ll be pinning this to make it later, for sure!
Honey is great as well. I just did not have any on hand et voila it became a vegan recipe 🙂
